embarrassing her father, a Member of Parliament,
Melissa dons a blond wig and becomes Honey, a

Although
the first few pages of Triangle, by Katherine
Weber, might lead readers to believe they are
embarking on a piece of historical fiction about
the Triangle Shirtwaist fire, it soon becomes
clear that Weber has something else in mind. The
main character, Esther Gottesfeld has been
famous most of her life, because in 1911, when
she was just 16, she escaped the tragic Triangle
Shirtwaist Company fire when so many others
perished. An elegant novel of ideas.

An
Inconvenient Wife by Megan Chance is a novel
that illuminates the cruel injustices of an age
when a woman was forced to be docile and
obedient, to deny her passions and to forgo her
dreams. Lucy Carleton is finding it harder and
harder to be the perfect wife. While other women
are so accepting of their lives, Lucy feels
overwrought and increasingly suffocated. This
story is heart rending and suspenseful, in
telling how a woman can be driven to the edge.
